Summertime Favorites!

Hi y’all! Summer is officially upon us! It’s time to get outside, enjoy the warmth, and have some fun! So in honor of the summer solstice, we thought we’d share our 21 favorite things to do during the summer here at the Crystal Coast!

  1. It’s a given! You definitely have to spend an afternoon on the beach. They don’t call it the Crystal Coast for nothing! No need to pack chairs, towels, or coolers – we have those for you!
  2. Unwind and enjoy a cocktail while watching the sunset. Whether you enjoy it from the comfort of your deck here at the Harborlight, from the water on one of our private sunset cruises or from the deck of the Swansboro Yacht Club, sunsets around here are a do not miss!
  3. Spend a day on the water catching redfish, flounder, sheepshead or whatever is running! Head over to Pogie’s ( in downtown Swansboro – they’ll get you all set up!
  4. Sunrise yoga on the beach! There is nothing like the feeling afterwards.
  5. Go for a bike ride! There are great bike trails in the Croatan National Forest or ride along the bike path from Emerald Isle to Atlantic Beach.
  6. History buff? Head to Fort Macon and learn about a southern fort that was used all the way through World War II.
  7. Avoid the beach crowds and go sandbar hopping! You never know, you might see some dolphin along the way!
  8. Climb Cape Lookout Lighthouse ( and enjoy the views!
  9. Slip and slide through downtown historic Swansboro when Slide the City ( comes to town July 15th.
  10. Go searching for the infamous wild horses on Shackleford Banks (
  11. Looking for dinner in? Get some fresh shrimp and crab from a local fisherman and have a Low Country Boil with friends. Or just grab the day’s catch and grill it up – don’t worry, we’ve got the grill!
  12. Kayak through the trails of Hammocks Beach State Park. Need a kayak or want a guided trip, check out Pogies in downtown Swansboro! (
  13. Catch a local band play at SwanFest every Sunday night! Music starts at 6:30pm!
  14. Head to the Olde Beaufort Farmers’ Market and browse great local art, enjoy lunch from a food truck and grab some fresh produce!
  15. Spend an afternoon perusing the shops of downtown Swansboro and Beaufort.
  16. Raining? No worries! Head to the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores ( and learn about the waters of North Carolina and the animals that live in them.
  17. Bike, eat and drink your way through downtown Beaufort on a Hungry Town Tour (
  18. NASCAR fan? Catch a race at the Carteret County Speedway (!
  19. Explore the beautiful grounds of Tryon Palace ( in New Bern. Don’t forget your camera!
  20. Enjoy a cool summer evening and try your hand at a little put-put golf. Golfin’ Dolphin ( in Cape Carteret or Lost Treasure Golf (com/) in Salter Path has you covered! Add a little wager and make it even more fun!
  21. Hop aboard the Lady Swan ( and learn about the natural and local history of Swansboro while cruising the intracoastal waterway!
